Fresh out of Dry Dock and Alaska Bound
Holland America Line's Koningsdam is back in service and looking better than ever. After spending two weeks in dry dock in the Bahamas, this beloved Pinnacle-class ship has returned with a fresh new look, exciting new accommodations, and some really thoughtful upgrades that are going to make a big difference for guests heading to Alaska this summer.
On March 29, 2026, guests boarded the Koningsdam for her final Caribbean voyage of the season before she transits the Panama Canal and makes her way north to Alaska. Those guests were the very first in the world to experience everything new on board, and from everything Holland America has shared, they were in for quite a treat.
There is a lot to cover, so let's walk through everything that changed during the dry dock.
New Ocean View Staterooms for Families and Groups
This is the upgrade families and multigenerational travel groups have been waiting for. Holland America added five brand-new, larger ocean view staterooms during the dry dock, designed specifically with groups in mind. Each stateroom accommodates up to four guests and features two beds that convert to a queen-size bed, along with a double sofa bed. Four of those five staterooms are connecting, which means larger families or friend groups can book side by side and still have their own space when they need it.
Holland America also upgraded 22 Vista Suites with new sofa beds, giving even more families the option to stay together comfortably without feeling cramped.
Here is where it gets personal. I actually had the chance to sail in one of these ocean view staterooms recently, and there was a pretty big surprise waiting inside that cabin — one I was not expecting at all. That family oceanview cabin tour can be seen here.
💡 Jules' Tip: Family staterooms on Alaska sailings fill fast. If you are targeting a specific sailing with one of the new connecting configurations, get your reservation in well before summer. These are brand-new inventory and availability will be limited.
Live Music Gets a Fresh New Flow
If you have ever sailed on the Koningsdam, you know that the live music scene is one of her best features. The area connecting Billboard Onboard and the Rolling Stone Rock Room received some really smart updates during the dry dock that make the whole experience feel more connected and immersive.
Added seating in each venue gives guests more room to settle in and enjoy performances, while new lounge seating positioned right between the two spaces allows guests to take in shows from either side. The result is a more open, flowing environment where the music feels like it surrounds you rather than being contained in one spot. For an evening at sea, that sounds absolutely perfect.
A Bigger, Better Casino
The Koningsdam's casino expanded during the dry dock, and the difference goes beyond square footage. The increased footprint creates a more spacious and comfortable gaming environment, and the refreshed layout improves how guests move between the casino and the surrounding entertainment and shopping areas. Whether you are a serious gamer or just passing through on your way to dinner, the whole area is going to feel more inviting and easy to navigate.
Fresh Finishes Throughout the Ship
Beyond the big headline upgrades, the Koningsdam received a series of interior updates during the dry dock that give the whole ship a cleaner, more polished feel heading into Alaska season.
Carpets were replaced throughout staterooms and public areas, which makes a bigger difference than you might expect in terms of how fresh and well-maintained a ship feels. Several specialty dining venues also received updates, including Pinnacle Grill, Sel de Mer, and Club Orange. Some fixed tables were converted to movable arrangements, which gives the dining teams more flexibility to accommodate different group sizes and seating preferences.
The fitness center received new equipment as well, so guests who like to keep up their workout routine at sea will have a modern, well-equipped space to do so.
The Effy Boutique Glows Up
One of the more visually striking updates on the Koningsdam is the complete refresh of the Effy jewelry boutique. The reimagined space features new flooring, wall finishes, lighting, and display fixtures, along with upgraded signage and a stunning new central feature chandelier that really anchors the whole space. The new look aligns with the updated Effy design already rolled out on Westerdam and Zuiderdam, creating a cohesive, contemporary feel across the fleet.
Ready to Sail? Here's What Alaska Looks Like This Summer
With all of these fresh upgrades on board, the Koningsdam is heading into one of the most spectacular destinations in the world. Alaska sailings start at just $799 (that works out to $114 per person per day), which is an incredible value for everything this ship has to offer. Whether you are planning a family trip, a multigenerational adventure, or a bucket list Alaska cruise, the newly refreshed Koningsdam is a fantastic choice for summer 2026.
